The postpartum period can be a wonderful time for many mothers. It can also present many challenges including trying to care for a new baby, learning how to breastfeed, healing after labour and delivery, caring for siblings, balancing home and work, adapting to a new role as a mother, upkeep of the home and maintaining a relationship. We are here to help as this is often not an easy process.
1/3-1/7 mothers will experience postpartum anxiety or depression with one or more pregnancies. We are here to help you. We can offer both natural and pharmaceutical treatment options to women to help them manage low mood, anxiety, fears, sleep deprivation, depression and possible feelings of fear of caring for their child effectively, giving up or running away. We can offer referrals to postpartum groups, counselling & programs in Victoria and are happy to work with your maternity provider, midwife, public health nurse, psychiatrist and/or counsellor to ensure adequate support. You are not alone. Wondering if you are suffering from Postpartum depression or anxiety?...complete this questionnaire. If your score is 11 or greater, please book an appointment with one of our postpartum counsellors, naturopathic physicians or ask us for a referral. Reduced rates are available for mothers requiring income assistance or belonging to GAP.
* We offer natural & pharmaceutical treatment options, counselling & support groups, acupuncture and registered massage therapy to treat postpartum depression (we are happy to work along side your maternity doctor, midwife, Traci McGee, RCC, your postpartum psychiatrist or the VIHA/Queen Alexandra Postpartum Program and Support group).
Postpartum Support Program
After the experience of labour & delivery, the postpartum period has historically been a time to renourishing the mother. Many cultures practice ancient rituals to provide nourishment to the mother to build her blood, energy and qi. We offer an integrated approach uniting Traditional Chinese Medicine, ancient Mommy support traditions, Naturopathic Medicine and Western Medicine to allow women to blossom into motherhood.

Postpartum Counselling Services:
Having a baby is a major life transition that brings with it a multitude of stressors and changes in identity. New mothers may experience depression and/or anxiety that is above and beyond normal "baby blues". Depression and anxiety affect one's thoughts, behaviours, feelings and physical health and can be difficult to overcome without the right kind of help. It is very important to seek help if you are going through this, to ensure optimal development of your baby as well as your well-being and that of your family. Our Clinical Counsellor, Laurie Monez, provides prenatal and postpartum counselling to help moms through this challenging time. She is also available to see new fathers or the couple in couples counselling. She will provide support, education, skills training and mindfulness-based psychotherapy to help you better understand what you are going through and become empowered to overcome your symptoms. She is a counsellor for the VIHA/Queen Alexandra Postpartum Program.
